Compval Terms and Conditions

Effective date: 3 November 2026
Last updated: 3 November 2026

1. About these Terms

These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern access to and use of the Compval website at www.compval.com and the services provided through it (together, the "Service"). The Service is provided by Compval Trading & Services Ltd, company number NI614155, registered office Unit 271, Moat House, 54 Bloomfield Avenue, Belfast, BT5 5AD ("Compval", "we", "us", "our").

By registering for an account, purchasing a membership or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. Please read them together with our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle personal data and forms part of these Terms by reference.

The Service is designed for professionals in regulated industries. It may also be purchased by individuals acting in a personal capacity ("consumers"). Where these Terms give rights to consumers, those rights apply to you only if you are acting as a consumer. Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer, including under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013.

2. Definitions

"Member" means a person who holds an account with an active membership.
"Membership" means the right to access the Member Content for the Membership Term, on payment of the applicable fee.
"Membership Term" means the period of one year from the date a Membership begins or is renewed.
"Member Content" means the online courses (including CSV 101), course manual, templates and SOPs library, articles, case studies, the Ask Iain service and other material made available to Members.
"Team" means a group of named individuals whose Memberships are purchased together by an organisation under a team plan.
"Team Manager" means the individual who administers a Team on behalf of the purchasing organisation.

3. Eligibility and accounts

You must be at least 18 years old to register. You agree to provide accurate registration details and to keep them up to date.

A Membership is for the sole, personal use of the named individual. You must not share your login details, allow another person to use your account, or transfer your account to anyone else. You are responsible for keeping your password confidential and for activity under your account. Please tell us promptly at admin@compval.com if you believe your account has been used without your permission.

4. The Service

The Service currently includes: the CSV 101 online course (self-paced, with module quizzes and a certificate on completion); the course manual; a library of templates and SOPs; articles and case studies; a question service called Ask Iain; and an optional newsletter. We may add to, change or withdraw parts of the Service from time to time, as described in Section 14.

Public parts of the Service, including the GxP Readiness Planner, are available without a Membership. Their use is also subject to these Terms.

5. Pricing and founding rate

The price of an individual Membership is shown on our pricing page, in US dollars or euros, and is the price for one Membership Term. You choose your currency when you pay, and that currency applies at each renewal. Prices are shown in US dollars or euros. No VAT is charged at the date of these Terms.

We offer a founding rate to the first 50 Members. A Member who takes the founding rate keeps that rate at renewal for as long as their Membership remains continuous. A founding Member who renews within 30 days after their Membership expires keeps the founding rate. After that, the standard rate applies and the founding place is not restored. The founding rate is personal to the Member and cannot be transferred.

We may change our prices for future Membership Terms. A change will not affect a Membership Term already paid for, and we will show the current price before you pay.

6. Payment, term and renewal

Payment is taken in advance through Stripe, our payment provider. We do not receive or store your full card details.

A Membership lasts for one Membership Term. It does not renew automatically. To continue after the end of the Membership Term you must renew by paying again before or after expiry; we will normally email a reminder before your Membership expires.

When a Membership expires, access to the Member Content ends. Your account and records are then handled as set out in our Privacy Policy. A certificate you have earned remains yours to keep and remains verifiable as set out in Section 10.

7. Cancellation, refunds and faults

Consumers. If you are a consumer, you have a statutory right to cancel a distance contract within 14 days of purchase. A Membership gives immediate access to digital content. When you purchase, you will be asked to confirm that you want access to begin immediately and that you understand you will lose your right to cancel once access begins. If you give that confirmation, you will not have the 14-day right to cancel after access has begun. If you do not give it, you will not be able to complete the purchase.
Business purchasers. If you purchase for business purposes (including any Team), no cancellation right applies and fees are non-refundable once access has begun, except where we agree otherwise or the law requires.

Faults and unavailability. Nothing in this Section limits your statutory rights. If the Service is not provided with reasonable care and skill, or a material part of it is unavailable for an extended period, we will put the problem right within a reasonable time or, where that is not possible, refund the fee for the affected part, as the law requires and as is fair.

After the Membership Term has begun, fees are otherwise non-refundable.

8. Team memberships

A Team is purchased by an organisation for a number of named seats. Each seat is for one named individual with their own login and certificate. Seats may not be shared. The Team Manager may view the progress and results of Team members, and may download a training record, for the purpose of documenting staff training.

Team Memberships are invoiced and paid by bank transfer or another agreed method, with a single renewal date for the whole Team. Invoices are payable within 14 days of the invoice date, and Team access begins when payment is received. If an invoice remains unpaid 30 days after its date, we may suspend the Team's access.

If a Team member leaves the purchasing organisation, the Team Manager may ask us to replace that seat with another named individual. We will agree such requests at our reasonable discretion, normally where the original individual has not completed the course.

The purchasing organisation is responsible for ensuring that its Team members and Team Manager comply with these Terms.

9. Intellectual property and licence

All Member Content, including the courses, videos, slides, manual, templates, SOPs, articles and case studies, and the Compval name and branding, is owned by Compval or its licensors and is protected by copyright and other rights.

Subject to these Terms and for as long as your Membership is active, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to access the Member Content for your own learning and professional use. You may use the templates and SOPs as a starting point for documents within your own organisation, adapting them to your own systems and quality processes.

You may download the course manual and the templates for your own use during your Membership. You may adapt the templates for your own organisation's documents. You must not pass the manual or the templates to others, or post them online.

You must not otherwise copy, record, download in bulk, redistribute, publish, resell or share Member Content, or use it to train or build any other product or service, including an automated or AI system. You must not remove copyright or confidentiality notices.

10. Certificates

On completing CSV 101, you may receive a Compval certificate of completion. To earn it you must complete all modules and achieve at least 85% in each module quiz.
A certificate shows that you completed the Compval course. It is not an accredited qualification, and it is not issued, endorsed or recognised by any regulator or other external body.

Each certificate carries a reference code. Anyone who has that code can confirm, on our public verification page, that the certificate is genuine and see the holder's name, the course title and the issue date. We keep certificate records for 3 years from the date of issue, as stated in our Privacy Policy, after which a certificate can no longer be verified through the website.

11. Nature of the content

The Member Content is educational and provides general information on computer system validation and related regulatory topics, including GAMP 5, 21 CFR Part 11 and EU Annex 11. It reflects our understanding at the time of writing, which may change as guidance and regulation change. It is not legal, regulatory or compliance advice, and it does not guarantee that any system or organisation will meet regulatory requirements or pass an inspection.

You remain responsible for your own validation decisions and for applying the content to your own systems and quality management processes. You should consult your own quality, regulatory and legal advisers where appropriate.

12. Ask Iain

Ask Iain allows Members to submit questions on computer system validation. Answers are general guidance based on the information you provide, are not advice tailored to your organisation, and do not create a consultancy engagement.

We may use artificial intelligence tools to help draft answers. We do not enter your name or contact details into such tools. Our personnel review answers before they are sent. Please do not include confidential or client-identifying information, trade secrets or personal data of others in a question.

By submitting a question you agree that we may publish it, together with our answer, in a general FAQ for the benefit of other Members, at our discretion. Before publishing we will remove your name and any detail that could identify you or your organisation. If you later want a published question removed, email admin@compval.com and we will remove it.

13. Acceptable use

You must not:

  • share, resell or redistribute your login or the Member Content;
  • attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Service, other users' accounts or our systems;
  • use automated tools to scrape or copy the Service;
  • interfere with the operation or security of the Service, or introduce malware;
  • use the Service for any unlawful purpose, or to harass or harm another person;
  • submit unlawful, misleading or infringing material, or use the Service to send spam.

We may suspend or end access for a breach of this Section. Where reasonable, we will give notice and an opportunity to remedy first, except where the breach is serious or ongoing.

14. Service availability and changes

We aim to keep the Service available and reliable, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation. We may carry out maintenance, and will aim to give notice where practical. We may update, improve, reorganise or withdraw content and features. Where we withdraw a material part of the Member Content during a Membership Term, we will provide a fair remedy in line with Section 7.

15. Suspension and termination

You may stop using the Service at any time. Refunds are governed by Section 7. We may suspend or end an account for serious or repeated breach of these Terms, for non-payment, or where required by law. Where reasonably possible we will give notice before doing so. Sections that by their nature should continue (including intellectual property, liability and governing law) survive termination.

16. Warranties

We provide the Service with reasonable care and skill. Except as set out in these Terms or required by law (including, for consumers, the Consumer Rights Act 2015), the Service is provided "as is" and we give no further warranties. Nothing in this Section affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

17. Limitation of liability

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for: death or personal injury caused by our negligence; fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; any matter which it would be unlawful to exclude or limit; or, for consumers, your statutory rights.

Subject to the paragraph above, our total liability to you arising out of or in connection with these Terms or the Service, whether in contract, tort (including negligence) or otherwise, is limited to one year's membership fee.

Subject to the first paragraph of this Section, we are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of profit, revenue, business, opportunity or goodwill. In particular, we are not liable for any regulatory finding, audit outcome or business loss arising from your use of, or reliance on, the Member Content.

18. Indemnity

If you are a business purchaser, you agree to reimburse us for losses, costs or claims we suffer as a direct result of your or your Team's breach of Sections 9 or 13, except to the extent caused by our own breach of these Terms or negligence.

19. Third-party services

We use trusted third parties to deliver the Service, including Stripe for payment processing and our hosting provider, as described in our Privacy Policy. We are not responsible for the independent acts or omissions of these providers beyond what is stated in Section 17.

20. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time, for example to reflect changes to the Service or the law. Where a change is material, we will notify Members by email or on the website before it takes effect. Changes do not affect a Membership Term already paid for, except where the law requires. If you do not agree to a change, you may choose not to renew.

21. Complaints and governing law

If you have a complaint, please contact us first at the address in Section 22 so that we can try to resolve it. Independent guidance for consumers is available from Citizens Advice.

These Terms are governed by the law of Northern Ireland, UK. If you live in Scotland, England or Wales, you may also bring proceedings in the courts of the part of the UK in which you live, and mandatory consumer protections of that jurisdiction may also apply.

If you purchase for business purposes, these Terms are governed by the law of Northern Ireland and the courts of Northern Ireland have exclusive jurisdiction.
